Toyota Lawsuit – Sudden Acceleration – Serious Personal Injury
In the midst of several class action lawsuits, Toyota is facing further pressure from U.S. Lawmakers and Transportation officials to speed up its recall of several Toyota models. Thus far, Toyota has recalled nearly four million makes and models following accusations of knowingly selling cars with a sudden acceleration problem. According to the most recent class action lawsuits filed against the automaker, this sudden acceleration issue is to blame for nearly 16 wrongful deaths and more than 200 serious personal injuries.
Toyota also is under fire for denying that the cause behind the acceleration problem is a faulty electronic system, called ETCS-i (Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent). According to Toyota representatives, floor mats and sticking pedals are responsible for the cars’ sudden, unexpected acceleration. Having been forced to fly to Japan to remind Toyota of its safety duties to the public, U.S. authorities now are asking the automaker to provide documentation proving that the computer system in question is not responsible for causing several Toyota models to speed up uncontrollably.
In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is being blamed for not documenting and/or addressing the sudden acceleration complaints filed by nearly 2,000 residents in California alone.
