Toyota Lawsuits - Sudden Acceleration Recall and Personal Safety
One of the world's foremost car manufacturers, multinational Toyota Motor Corporation is recalling several popular makes and models due to a sudden acceleration problem that has caused a significant number of car accidents, many resulting in serious injury and even death. Toyota is under fire from all sides following several class action lawsuits and federal safety regulators stating the number of crashes caused by sudden acceleration is more than any other automaker has experienced.
In its defense, the ensuing Toyota recall included nearly four million makes and models, including Lexus ES, Camry and Prius. According to Toyota, the sudden acceleration issue is a result of floor mats shifting out of position and jamming the accelerator pedal. However, consumers and product liability lawyers disagree, claiming that a faulty electronic system — ETCS-i (Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent) — is what's causing sudden acceleration and putting millions of consumers in grave danger. Authorities now are asking Toyota to prove their claim that the cause behind unexpected acceleration is limited to floor mats and sticking pedals.
Toyota Unintended Acceleration Safety Risks
According to class action lawsuits filed against Toyota, the sudden acceleration problem has led to an indeterminate number of car accidents, many of which have yielded serious injuries and death. Some plaintiffs claim that Toyota was aware of the problem, but did nothing to address it.
Toyota could be facing a slew of class action lawsuits, as well as personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits worldwide. In addition to consumer lawsuits, the Transportation Department has announced that it is considering a civil penalty against Toyota over the handling of the recalls. At this time, federal safety officials are still investigating the possible defects and closely monitoring the implementation of the recalls.
To compound Toyota's problems, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also is being blamed for not documenting and/or addressing the sudden acceleration complaints filed by thousands of consumers in the past 12 months.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a car accident that may have been caused by unexpected acceleration resulting in serious injuries and/or death, you may be eligible to receive compensation from Toyota for your medical bills, and pain and suffering.
