A federal judge has ruled that Iran is liable for more than $573 million in damages to U.S. troops and their families for injuries and deaths caused by terrorist attacks in Iraq. The court found that Iranian support—including funding, weapons, and training—directly enabled these attacks, making them a “direct and intended consequence” of Iran’s actions. The judgment follows expert testimony and a two-day hearing, with damages awarded to seven bellwether plaintiffs and paving the way for hundreds more to seek justice through the U.S. Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Fund.
