Madeline Theophilus is an associate attorney at AWK Survivor Advocate Attorneys, where she brings a steadfast commitment to justice for survivors of sexual abuse, exploitation, and violence. Her practice is rooted in trauma-informed advocacy, with a deep understanding of the legal and emotional landscapes that survivors navigate.

Before joining AWK, Madeline served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Special Prosecutions Division of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. There, she prosecuted crimes involving vulnerable victims, including children.

Madeline’s dedication to human rights and survivor advocacy is further reflected in her previous internship roles at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she contributed to cases involving international human rights violations, child exploitation, and sexual violence. She also held an internship at the nonprofit Protect Our Defenders, where she worked on issues of military sexual assault and institutional accountability.

She earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, where she received the President’s Volunteer Service Award and the Pro Bono Service Award for Outstanding Work in Public Service. She holds a B.A. in English, History, and Gender Studies from Drake University, where she was actively involved in survivor advocacy programs and violence prevention education.
