Partner

Melanie Sulkin leads the firm’s single event personal injury practice in its Colorado office. For nearly a decade, Ms. Sulkin has concentrated her practice on personal injury, motor vehicle collisions, wrongful death, products liability, medical malpractice, and insurance litigation, representing plaintiffs from the earliest stages of a case through post-verdict. She is known for her hands-on, communicative approach to client representation, keeping clients informed and involved at every stage of their case, and tailoring resolution strategies to each client’s individual goals and circumstances.

Ms. Sulkin brings a proven trial record to AWKO. In her previous role as Managing Partner at Krivit Law, she secured three plaintiff verdicts within her first year, two of which resulted in six-figure recoveries with full reimbursement of costs. Prior to that, she spent nearly seven years at Bachus & Schanker, LLC, where she served as a core member of the trial team handling catastrophic injury, products liability, and pharmaceutical litigation. There, she helped secure two $20 million verdicts that were upheld on appeal and played a central role in managing discovery and case strategy across both single-event and multi-district litigation matters. Notably, her first trial in October 2020 resulted in a $21 million verdict — the largest verdict in Eastern Missouri court history.

Throughout her career, Ms. Sulkin has developed deep expertise in all phases of complex litigation, including trial, depositions of fact, expert, 30(b)(6), and adjuster witnesses, as well as motions practice in both state and federal court. She is an aggressive litigator and takes affirmative steps to knock down frivolous defenses and protect her clients from abusive insurance tactics.

Ms. Sulkin is an active member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, where she is serving her second term. She is a member of CTLA’s amicus committee and programming committee, where she helps plan and organize continuing legal education events for the legal community. She is also a member of the American Association for Justice.

Ms. Sulkin received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where she earned Dean’s Honors and was active in Moot Court and the Labor and Employment Law Society. She graduated magna cum laude from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, with minors in Spanish and Political Science. She helped start the Mock Trial Team at Northern Illinois and competed in their inaugural year.

Outside of the office, Ms. Sulkin enjoys the Colorado outdoors with her husband and four animals, including camping, hiking, and paddleboarding.
