Following a Class 1 recall by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Philips Respironics recalled several BiPAP machines due to a plastic motor component that could emit cancer-causing chemicals into the user’s air pathway. As a result of the recall, there has been a rise in reported cases of CPAP cancer.<\/p>\n

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) machines are commonly used to treat sleep apnea. Foam added by the manufacturer Philips to reduce sound and vibration can break down into debris. Once inhaled, it can lead to severe injuries, including pulmonary\/lung injuries, cancers, and death.<\/p>\n
