According to a July 13, 2011 FDA announcement, surgical mesh used to repair pelvic organ prolapse (POP) might be linked to serious injuries, including unnecessary erosion, severe pain, urinary problems and other dangerous complications. DePuy Recalls Defective Hip Implants
DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., a unit of Johnson & Johnson, recalled two hip implant systems, Aug. 26, 2010, because of early failures. The recalled hip implants include the ASR XL Acetabular System (sold worldwide) and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System (sold outside the U.S.). Symptoms of hip implant failure include intense pain, swelling, and difficulty walking or standing. ![]()
Paxil® and Zoloft® Linked to Birth Defects
Paxil® and Zoloft®, two of the most commonly prescribed antidepressants in the U.S., have been found to increase the risk of serious birth defects in infants whose mothers use the drugs during pregnancy. Potential birth defects include heart defects, lung problems, abdominal defects, brain and skull defects, seizures, low blood sugar, abnormal muscle tone, irritability and tremors.
