AWKO partner Sam Geisler played a pivotal role in the nation’s first trial involving necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) caused by cow’s milk-based preterm formulas.
The team represented a family whose preterm infant died after receiving Mead Johnson cow’s milk-based preterm formula. After hearing the evidence, the jury awarded the family $60 million despite being asked to award $25 million.
“The end goal is achieving accountability on behalf of the most vulnerable among us,” Mr. Geisler stated. “This just verdict is a huge step forward in that effort.”
Mr. Geisler is currently on the team preparing for the second trial, which will be the first tried against Abbott Nutrition.
