Order: SSJ
Ordained: 1989
Status: Settled
Diocese: Archdiocese of Baltimore MD

Father Alfred Dean, who hails from the Bahamas, was initially assigned to St. Veronica in South Baltimore, and later, in 2000, to St. Francis Xavier in East Baltimore. However, he was suspended in 2002 following allegations of molesting a 13-year-old boy in April of that year while serving at St. Francis Xavier.

Although the Archdiocese initially claimed in September 2002 that the allegations did not appear credible, an investigation revealed significant issues of concern about his fitness for ministry with minors. Father Alfred Dean resigned and was placed on leave by his Order.

In August 2002, a young man came forward to report that Father Alfred Dean would drive around Mount Vernon and pick up little boys every Monday night. In May 2003, Dean was indicted on criminal charges, but the charges were later dismissed by a judge at the request of the victim’s family in December 2003. A settlement was reached in 2004. Dean’s name was included on the Baltimore archdiocese’s list, and he was also mentioned in the Maryland Attorney General’s report published on April 5, 2023.
