Order: OFM Conv
Status: Settled
Died: 12/5/1948
Diocese: Archdiocese of Baltimore MD

Father Alphonsus Figlewski, also known as Alphonse, was ordained in 1905 and served in various locations including Shamokin PA, Milwaukee WI, Chelsea MA, Bridgeport CT, Baltimore MD, Ellicott City MD, Loretto Italy, and Hamburg NY. However, he was publicly named as accused in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General’s Report.

From 1924 to 1939, Father Alphonsus Figlewski was assigned to St. Stanislaus in Fells Point, Baltimore, and passed away in 1948. In 1997 and 2002, a man reported to the Archdiocese that he had been sexually abused by Figlewski in the 1930s when he was still a boy.

The man disclosed that Father Alphonse would take altar boys on streetcar trips individually and instructed them to wear short pants, which he provided from his “sizable wardrobe” for this purpose. During the rides, Father Alphonse would touch the boys inappropriately by reaching into their pants and fondling them. The man eventually received a settlement from the Archdiocese.
