Father David Smith was charged with perverted practice in July of 2002, following allegations made by a man who claimed that Smith had sexually abused him when he was 16 years old at a parish rectory between 1973 and 1976.
In October of 2002, Smith pleaded guilty to engaging in sex acts with the boy. It is worth noting that Smith had taken an unrelated leave of absence in 2000 and had no faculties to perform ministry.
Furthermore, Smith’s name was included on the Baltimore archdiocese’s list of accused individuals in September of 2002.
