Father John Corbett, originally from England, was ordained in 1909 for the Baltimore Archdiocese. He was a Monsignor and served at several parishes, including St. Brigid’s (1909-1922), St. Peter’s in Washington DC (1922-1924), St. Margaret’s in DC (1924-1943), and St. Mary Star of the Sea in Baltimore (1943-1957).

Father John Corbett was named publicly as an accused priest by the archdiocese on its list in April 2019. He was accused in 1993 of abusing two girls at St. Mary Star of the Sea, one in third grade during 1949-1950 and the other in 1952 or 1953. In 2002, another woman reported abuse by Corbett as a first-grader at St. Mary’s.

There was another report in 2002 of abuse of a girl in 1946. She told her mother, who then told the principal, but no action was taken. The archdiocese received similar allegations in 2002, 2010, 2018, and 2020. One victim stated that Corbett “molested all the little girls at the school [St. Mary’s].” Corbett died in 1957 and was included in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General’s Report.
