Starting in 1987, multiple individuals reported incidents of physical and sexual abuse by Father John Mike. As a result, his faculties were removed by the Archdiocese that same year. In addition, criminal charges were filed against Father John Mike in 1987 for whipping a 17-year-old youth and hanging the youth upside down from a basketball backboard, followed by striking him on the buttocks with a table tennis paddle. In September 1987, he pleaded guilty and received a sentence of five years of supervised probation.
