Fr. Joseph Gerg

Father Joseph Gerg

Order: OSB
Ordained: 1965
Status: Accused
Diocese: Archdiocese of Baltimore MD

Father Joseph Gerg was accused of sexually abusing a minor in the late 1960s to early 1970s while serving at St. Benedict’s in Baltimore, which led to an allegation against him being received by the Baltimore archdiocese in 1997. Following the U.S. Bishops’ Dallas Charter, he was removed from active ministry in 2002 and was subsequently included on Baltimore’s list of accused priests in September of that year.

Later, in August 2018, he was also included in the list of credibly accused priests by the St. Vincent Archabbey of Latrobe PA Benedictines. The Maryland Attorney General’s Report released on April 5, 2023, revealed that Gerg’s victim was a girl between the ages of 13 and 17. She reported the abuse to Neil Magnus and Joseph Maskell, both known perpetrators.
