Father Luigi Esposito was ordained in Italy, served at Our Lady of Pompei in Highlandtown from 1964 to 2018, and became the pastor in 1987. He was also involved in teaching, coaching, and was the Athletic Director of the parish school from 1964 to 1987. He was incardinated into the Archdiocese in 2000.
However, in May 2018, the diocese suspended him from ministry after receiving an allegation of sexual abuse of a girl. The abuse was said to have started when she was around 14 years old in 1973 and continued through her high school years. It was reported that the Father began grooming her when she was just 5 to 7 years old.
Although he admitted to having a “crush” on her and hugging and kissing her, he denied abusing her. The Baltimore police were investigating this case. He was included on the Archdiocese’s list on December 14, 2018. The list also notes another allegation of abuse of a girl aged 16 in 1972-1973. He was named in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General’s Report.
