Ordained: 1974
Status: Convicted
Diocese: Archdiocese of Baltimore MD

In 1984, Father Marion Helowicz was arrested for attempting to solicit a police officer, but the charges were eventually dropped and he was sent for treatment. In March 1988, a police report was filed accusing Father Marion Helowicz of sexually abusing a learning-disabled teenage boy between July 1982 and early 1985. Father Marion Helowicz later admitted to also abusing a second boy. He was then sent to the House of Affirmation in Missouri for treatment in June 1988. In October of that year, he was indicted and eventually pleaded guilty in December, receiving a six-month suspended jail sentence and 200 hours of community service.

The first victim received a settlement in February 1990, while in April of the same year, another young man reported being abused by Helowicz from 1982 to 1984, when he was 14 or 15 years old. This was the same victim that Helowicz had admitted to abusing in 1988, but the Archdiocese did not report this to law enforcement until 2002. The victim received a settlement in October 1990. In March 1993, yet another man came forward to allege abuse as an 8th-grader in the early 1980s. Once again, the Archdiocese did not report this to law enforcement until 2002. Helowicz was named on Baltimore’s September 26, 2002 list and was laicized in 2017. His name was included in the Maryland Attorney General’s report on April 5, 2023.
