In March 1995, Father Michael LaMountain was suspended after an accusation was made against him. In October 1997, he was indicted on criminal charges for allegedly molesting five boys between the 1970s and 1990s. LaMountain pleaded guilty to nine counts in January 1999 and was sentenced to nine 12-year suspended sentences.

In December 1995, at least two civil suits were filed against him. These claims were settled in September 2002 as part of a $13.5 million mass settlement involving 36 victims and the diocese. LaMountain was a seminary student in Baltimore from 1972 to 1976 and was accused in 2001 of abuse in Baltimore in the mid-1970s. He was included on the Baltimore archdiocese’s list of accused in September 2002. LaMountain passed away on August 25, 2010, and was included on the Providence diocese’s list on July 1, 2019.
