In 1991, a person came forward with allegations of abuse against Father Michael Spillane. Upon being confronted, Spillane acknowledged the abuse and admitted to having molested at least six youths between 1975 and 1986. There is a possibility that the church settled with the person who made the allegations. In 1991, Spillane’s privileges were removed.
Fast forward to 2002, Father Michael Spillane was employed as the director of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions, which provided advice to the USCCB. He had been working for the Commission for 16 years. However, in the same year, another allegation surfaced, claiming that Spillane had engaged in child sexual abuse in the late 1960s.
