Father Robert Callahan was publicly named as an accused in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General’s Report. In 1978, he was sued for having an affair with a neighbor’s wife and subsequently went on leave of absence, never to return to ministry.

Father Robert Callahan got married, but a report to the Archdiocese in 1988 alleged that he sexually abused a boy, aged 11-18, from 1967-1974. The abuse was said to have involved rape and alcohol and took place in multiple locations, including rectories of St. Rita’s in Baltimore and Christ the King in Edgemere, during overnights.

The alleged victim believed others knew about it. A priest assigned to St. Rita’s with Callahan from 1970-1972 said Callahan was close to many young people, including the victim and his family. He also knew that Callahan had children in his room. Callahan was laicized in 2017 and passed away on 11/22/2019.
