In March 1996, Father William Krouse, a former pastor at St. Francis Catholic Deaf Center in Prince George County, Maryland, was arrested in Florida following allegations of abuse by a former student between 1968 and 1972. Krouse, also known as “Jay,” admitted to the abuse and was imprisoned in Florida while awaiting extradition.

He had voluntarily left active priesthood around 1986 but was still listed as on leave in the 1990 Catholic directory. Krouse, also known as Jay Krouse, was sentenced in November 1996 to 10 years in prison for abusing six deaf boys between 1970 and 1978. He was included on the Archdiocese of Washington DC’s list of accused on October 15, 2018, and was added to the Baltimore archdiocese’s list in February 2019.
